All Day

Thomas Weld (1750-1810) is the person who gave us the land on which we built our church.  He was a member of the English Catholic gentry, landowner and philanthropist. In 1798 he presented us with land here on Lowergate, Clitheroe, so that a church and a school could be built. Part of a  letter from him regarding the gift of the land states “ I shall certainly be very happy to give the ground where on to build the Chapel at Clitheroe, upon condition of  perpetual anniversary mass for both Mrs Weld and myself after our decease”.  Weld Day is held on the first Sunday in July, in the garden in front of the Presbytery.  All three parishes, Clitheroe, Dunsop Bridge and Sabden are involved.  Mass in the garden at 10.30am (to be confirmed) and is followed by a picnic.
